Description and Learning Objectives

Diagnosis coding is more important than as the means to “get a claim paid.” While getting a claim paid is the primary purpose of claims submission, accurate diagnosis coding is critical in compliance. It establishes the medical necessity for a medical service. It is also important for groups with risk-based contracts to assess the acuity of their patient population.

Are you new to medical coding?

Or, do you and your co-workers have questions about assigning diagnoses codes, and disagreements with providers?

Or, are you like me? You took and passed your coding certification course a long time ago, and you need to brush-up on ICD-10-CM?

Look no farther. Adrienne Commeree, MLS, RHIA, CPC, CPMA, CCS, CEMC, CPIP is a professor at Tacoma Community College and she has developed and will present our four- module (plus bonus) ICD-10-CM course.

This four-module course is focused on coding for outpatient (not facility) services. In module one, Adrienne reviews the guidelines, conventions, format, and structure of diagnosis coding. The second module explains manifestations, etiology, signs and symptoms and acute and chronic conditions. The third and fourth modules highlight key guidelines in Chapters 1-20 which are essential to understand and use to accurately assign ICD-10-CM codes.

What about Chapters 21 and 22? It’s a short bonus session. Using the codes in Chapter 21 correctly is key for medical outpatient coders. Adrienne will present this 15-minute bonus session on these two chapters
