When the method for selecting the level of E/M services was changed for 2021 (office visits) and 2023 (other visits), the concept of “risk” underwent significant revision. No longer was this concept confined to just one element/subcomponent of MDM. The MDM element most commonly referred to as the “risk” element now came with several new allowances. Many examples found in the prior guidelines to assist with assessing risk were removed.
Join us for this webinar as we discuss in detail the current concept of risk used for evaluation and management coding.
After the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the differences between the concept of risk in the old (1995/1997) CMS E/M Documentation Guidelines vs. the new (2021/2023) CPT E/M Guidelines.
- Understand the difference between problem risk and patient management risk
- Understand the allowances currently available when assessing risk
