Behavioral Health Coding with 2021 E/M Changes
Recorded December 17, 2020
This webinar describes CPT coding for behavioral health services, including services performed by therapists, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants. It will answer questions about how to code for initial evaluations, psychotherapy, medication management (with and without psychotherapy on the same day), psychotherapy for patients in crisis, and the interactive complexity add-on code. There are also additional ICD-10-CM codes effective for 2021.
Medication management services, reported with E/M codes, are also changing. Most of these are billed as established patient visits and the rules for those changed January 1, 2021.
Learning objectives
After the session, participants will be able to:
- Select the correct code for initial evaluations
- Describe the documentation requirements for psychotherapy
- Understand how to bill for E/M services on the day of psychotherapy
