Psychiatry Exam Reference Sheet 1997 Guidelines

This is the single specialty psychiatry exam from the 1997 guidelines. As of Jan 1, 2023 it will no longer be in use. Why have we kept it on the site? In case you are auditing office visit services from prior to 2021 or other E/M services prior to 2023.

Psychiatrists and psychiatric NPs and PAs often use E/M codes to report services. In addition to using a psychiatric diagnostic evaluation code, 90792, they may bill for initial hospital services, ED visits, office visits or other E/M services. If using an E/M service, the most commonly used exam is the 1997 single specialty psychiatry exam. Use the exam example below to meet the requirements of a comprehensive, using the 1997 single specialty psychiatry exam.
