This is the second of three in-depth webinars on auditing E/M services. Each webinar will cover one of the elements of medical decision making.

Crediting data elements and explaining CPT® rules about crediting data elements is complicated. This webinar will describe the rules and optimal documentation to support the cognitive work done by practitioners. How in-depth does the analysis need to be for lab work? What type of comments, if any, are required? What about lab results dropped into a note without comment? This session will provide practical, citation-based advice about crediting data and give auditors recommendations for education with practitioners.

After the session, participants will be able to:

Describe order, review and independent interpretation for diagnostic tests with a professional and technical component
Accurately assess data in an office note or hospital service, and support the assessment with CPT® citations
Give providers guidance about documentation to support ordering and reviewing data, and using an independent historian
