Coding preventive visits and Medicare wellness visits can be confusing for practitioners. This session will describe how to bill for them when they are performed alone or with the addition of a problem-oriented visit, and required documentation. It will address how to bill for a pap smear done at a preventive visit or in response to a problem, and differentiate between screening and diagnostic labs at the visits.
After the session participants will be able to:
- Determine when to report a problem visit on the day of a preventive service
- Document visits with two services in a manner that overcomes internal and external objections
- Select diagnosis codes for labs ordered before or at a preventive or wellness visit
- Accurately code for services with a diagnostic or screening pap smear
