An example can show in a glance what it takes paragraphs to write and explain. The one I’ve included in this article shows risk scores for a few common chronic conditions, coded two ways. One follows ICD-10 rules and results in a six-fold increase in the risk score.
One of the things we coders love is when we need to define commonly used words like “and/or” and “with,” right? But in this case, understanding the concept of “with” is critical in code selection and makes a difference in HCC coding.
