Recorded May 4, 2017
Are you missing modifiers? Misplacing modifiers? If so, you’re losing money and wasting time working denials. Slapping a modifier on “just to be safe” (modifier 59 users, this one’s for you) can result in payment when none was due or denials. Coding denials due to incorrect or missing modifiers can cost a practice money.
Agenda for this webinar includes:
- Common CPT® and HCPCS modifiers
- Source documentation for each type of modifier
- Description/discussion of common CPT® and HCPCS modifiers
- Impact of using a modifier on the claim and payment
Modifiers are essential to coding. Some affect payment and some are informational only. Using a modifier does not change the definition of the procedure or service, but tells the payer that there were special circumstances regarding the provision of care.
Some modifiers by-pass claims editing software, and using the modifier results in payment to the practice. In those cases, correct modifier use is important for compliance and revenue. In other instances, the modifier is informational, but required, such as teaching physician modifiers.
Appending modifiers often falls to coders who need to know the rules and be willing to make an assessment when the documentation calls for judgment. This 60 minute webinar will discuss the most commonly used CPT® and HCPCS modifiers.Already a member? Login to watch now.
